The History of Computers :: Technology Technological Computers Essays
The History of Computers Most of usà ¤participate in this digital culture, whether by using an ATM card, composing and printing an office newsletter, calling a mail-order house on toll-free numberà ¤or shopping at a mega-mall where the inventory is replenished just in time. (Ceruzzi 1) In the Information Age of today society has become dependent on technology; every aspect of our lives have become centered on how fast and efficiently something can be accomplished. The use of computers aids our stride to becoming technologically advanced. But how did we as a society arrive at such a point? How did we end up becoming so reliant on computers? These questions will hopefully be answered by looking back at the history of computers to date. During the WWII, Eckert and Mauchly designed and built the ENIAC, an electronic calculator that computed firing tables for the U.S Army; it established the era of computing in the United States. After the War, the drum came about as the reliable, inexpensive but slow memory device. ERA sold the drum machines, advertising their dependability, large storage capacity and their high speed capabilities. Eckert and Mauchly in 1951 started the intrigue with computers with their UNIVAC, a computer with computing abilities; as time passed the UNIVAC became essentially important. During the 1960Ãâ¬s, The Case 1107 provided the main computing facility for Case Institute of Technology in Cleveland Ohio in the United States (Walker). The UNIVAC was extremely large yet quiet; its front cabinets ranged from floor to ceiling. The central processor was capable of computing simple arithmetic equations. The Case 1107 was one of the first computers on Earth to provide access from remote locations both at other locations on the campus and as far afield as Erie, Pennsylvania (Walker). A transformation in circuit technology during the 60Ãâ¬s, enabled the transitor to become reliable and cheap enough to serve as the basic circuit element for processors (Ceruzzi 49). By 1971, Intel had already released the world's first generally available DRAM chip and therefore, built the world's first single chip general purpose microprocessor. Two years later in 1973, IBM developed what is considered to be the first true sealed hard disk drive.

George Gittoes White Earth Essay
George Gittoesââ¬â¢ art piece, White Earth is a dramatic oil on canvas depicting the political corruption a 15 year old boy had been pressured into. Gittoes, the renowned Australian artist has always created his pieces by inspiration of his life experiences. He has an immense passion for art and humanity so being an eye witness to suffrage of humanity all over the world is conveyed in his work. White Earth is another successful and captivating work. Gittoes was witness to an Afrikaaner ââ¬â Weerstands Beweging (AWB) Rally in South Africa of April 1994, where he saw a 15 year old boy submerged in the propaganda of Nazi in youths. The young boy gets on the stage silent with resentment as photographers begin to infinitely snap at him. Gittoesââ¬â¢ sympathy for the boy is emphasized as he retells them ââ¬Å"raping and torturingâ⬠him. Too young to understand the political corruption he is stuck between being used by the ABW and being tortured by the international press. Trapped, as the victim of this controversial saga, his only escape is to close his eyes, however it is impossible to close his to ears to the Hate Speech delivered by Terre Blanche. Gittoes sympathized for his entrapment and compelling distressed state, so he depicts and dramatically distorts this experience through the art piece, White Earth. Being one to love expressionism, his passion for it gives meaning to convey and express emotions and feelings. He exaggerates the boy giving specific detail and emphasis to his ears. The distortion of his ears expresses the impossibility of closing his now larger ears. The figure to the right is racist Terre Blanche driving the propaganda into him, taking advantage of his naà ¯ve and young position. Distinct lines and vibrant colours on the boys face determine his resentment and struggle in his entrapment of what is around him. Once again George Gittoes amazes us with his brilliant techniques and skills. The strokes and their positioning all are part of his meaning in this sadà piece. Distortion not only occurs in his ears but all over his body, he appears larger as if we had grown up, Gittoes portraying his growth is too fast and unnatural due to the boyââ¬â¢s youth and already ââ¬Ëpolitical careerââ¬â¢. White Earth along with many of George Gittoesââ¬â¢ work depicts inhumanity, suffrage and the struggle of people everywhere. It is on of his best works portraying the struggle of a boy stuck between two corruptions and expressing his longing to escape the entrapment. Art lovers all over the world have passion for this renowned piece and those hating suffrage and inhumanity will also be touched by this intricate story ever so sad yet breathtaking piece, by the profound and magnificent George Gittoes.

New Quick Test Method for Hazardous Waste
The main reason is the waste contained chemical elements that belonged to other waste and went unnoticed. Among the these wastes, there ere some unidentified ones mixed in; some identified wastes were mixed into other kind of wastes by carelessness. Both mixtures increase the uncertainty which contributes to exhaust emissions beyond the safe limitation and low performance of cement. The mixture, however, is hard to avoid because there are serial possibilities.Making sure the quantity of chemical elements which can heavily influence emission and quality not beyond limitation is an economic choice. That needs to monitor the chemical elements of waste instantly during the co-processing. 3 Details of the solution Increasing the frequency of hazardous waste testing is the reasonable choice. That means we need to acquire a new method to test the elements of waste quickly and cheaply due to the fact that the traditional method cannot meet the requirement of speed or cost.First of all, we sh ould identify the main elements that highly relate to emission and cement performance. Second of all, we should configure which kind of element is frequently mixed with other waste. Third of all, develop the new method for individual elements. Finally, we should combine all these new testing method to a cage and compile software to calculate, stimulate and control co-processing not beyond safe limitation. Benefits of the solutions After having these abilities, we will have several profits. The potential risk can also be controlled effectively. What is more, the capacity of co-processing hazardous waste can be increased more than 30% without investing other co-processing line, it may save a huge amount of money. Furthermore, these abilities may become the national standard, which will be our technique defense to other competitors and may become our new business to provide to other costumers. Schedule for implementing the solution Find out the main elements that influence the emission and cement, and then confirm which kind of waste includes these elements and their existing styles, such as, organic or inorganic.Find out the co-processing limitation of these elements under the safety 4 conditions( Reiterate,Melanin. M. C. , &Tokheim, 2013). This phase will last three to five months. The second phase is to develop the quick testing method for the main elements and will last half year or even more. The final phase is to compile the software to calculate and simulate the co-processing ND test this software and will last three months. 5 Reference Reiterate. W. K. H, Melanin. M. C. , &Tokheim. A Compare and Contrast Essay on Batman and Iron Man
Today, we can see so many heroes in society. Various types of heroes appear in various cultures and various countries. Heroes give us confidence and we can trust them. I chose two heroes for comparison and compared it based on the cultural aspect and its behavior. The two heroes are Batman and Ironman. In the movie, the image of the hero is very clear. They are strong muscles; beat the bad guys to save the world, they have a girlfriend or a girlfriend. Their health is very good, their health is good. Because Iron Man and Batman are my favorite superheroes, I always wanted to contrast. There are some similarities between Iron Man and Batman, but both fight against the rogues to protect people and cities. They do not have super powers, they use technology and weapons to make their suit. Because everyone at Gotham is afraid of Batman, there are also some differences between Batman and Ironman: Iron Man is a hero, but Batman is a dark hero. Let's first introduce the similarities between Iron Man and Batman, then explain the difference between Batman and Iron Man in detail. After comparing Iron Man and Batman, it is difficult for me to choose who is better. Because I am still in primary school, I have been a Batman for a long time. I have not explained all the differences and similarities between Iron Man and Batman, but if you want to know more about them, try the movie. The movie is really funny. You can choose between Ironman and Batman. For casual movie fans, the idea of ââ¬â¹Ã¢â¬â¹comparing Iron Man and Batman seems reasonable given the apparent similarities of both. But trying to compare the two according to a darker question, Iron Man knows that it is not dark, so many people confuse it. However, if you are accustomed to manga books of a specific form or form called Iron Man, this comparison is fair considering how serious the cartoon book Iron Man is compared to the light version in the movie. Let's compare who is a more meditative villain - Iron Man an d Batman

The Summary & Strong Response Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 750 words
The Summary & Strong Response - Essay Example It is also a fact that parents force their children to win in order to realize their ambitions to win. While it is important to have competitive skills in adult life, parents decrease the quality of childhood experiences. Statsky states that sport games are very selective and they do not let all children to participate. The fear of failure is supported by this selectiveness as all children become afraid of being worse than others. Finally, the author suggests that it is better to focus on skills to cooperate with other children until children are psychologically ready to compete. The article by Statsky touches upon very important issues, which exemplify how parents make their children grow up too quickly. Pieces of evidence she provides draw a comprehensive picture where childhood seems to different from what it should be. When a 7-year old boy makes himself vomit, children hit each other or fear to lose the game, it means that something is going wrong with sport activities they join. Basically, children are forced to compete instead of enjoying the process of playing and communicating with each other. Young children learn to meet the demands established by adults to master their performance in sports. Children have to face the ugly reality where the winner takes it all and it often makes them suffer. They need to show that they are the best to make their parents feel proud of them or demand rewards for their achievements. At the same time, they have to stand the fear and the stress after the communication with their coaches, which is not always friendly. Even though Statsky mentions that Little League coaches have to attend psychology workshops to regulate their ambitions and be more sensitive to children, the reality shows that they do not rush to follow those guidelines. In most Hollywood movies about sport competitions, coaches are depicted as irritated, shouting and strict people.

Services Marketing Case Study Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words
Services Marketing - Case Study Example For a restaurant like Electtrico, this means refurbishing interiors to reflect the warmth and romance of a lover's rendezvous that is at once secluded yet accessible. The setting is tranquil but effervescent, the lights subdued and hypnotic, the music playing sweet and intoxicating from the dining hall's grand piano. This completes the service theatre. And then the sumptuous repast comprised of the restaurant's renowned Italian-Mediterranean fare rendered expertly by its award-winning chef, washed down with gourmet wines from Italy's finest vineyards. Elegant setting, gastronomic delights, gracious attendants, complimented with the practical considerations of ease of parking and accessibility of location - these would be the essentials that would define the Electtrico experience. Situated in the heart of London's business district, Electtrico is geared towards the young professionals who, in their late twenties and up, have begun to develop the sophistication to enjoy fine dining. Currently situated on the lower level of a two-story edifice, the restaurant proper is complimented by a pizza bar where the young, single and available can meet new acquaintances. In fine, this paper will bring together suggestions for the restaurant's marketing mix by which it will attract its clientele and mount a bid to compete against the other Italian restaurants within a comparable niche segment while differentiating its service. This paper will determine the pricing strategy to be adopted, training for the front line employees, the physical evidence as previously described, and the process of orchestrating the entire experience. With the price being the major differentiating factor in any business, and keeping in mind the major target segment, the price at the restaurant can be fixed at a level which is just above the average so a balance is achieved in all respects. Also, this kind of a pricing strategy can attract other target segments in large numbers. This study will also harmonize all these elements into a cogent and strategic whole, so that Electtrico's management will be guided in the further choices and revisions it may wish to introduce. Ultimately, by these suggestions, it is expected that Electtrico will be able to increase its market share, improve customer retention, and establish a leading name in this industry. Benvenuto, caro amico! THE START OF THE FINDINGS . I Exterior of the restaurant 1.1 Architectural style and signage Restaurant visibility and accessibility constitutes an

Moral rights are incompatible with the new digital environment in Essay
Moral rights are incompatible with the new digital environment in which copyright operates. Discuss in the light of(a) the technicaland (b)the practicalan - Essay Example One has to consider what moral rights are because morality is a very hard area to regulate, because one could argue that it is immoral for those with the digital technology to abuse the ownership rights of the copyright owner by making it available to all those who access the website for free1. Yet, on the other hand, one could argue that it is immoral for the copyright holder not to freely disclose information over the internet for free, especially if it benefits society on either educational or health and safety ground2. One could argue that the confidentiality and copyright afforded to Prince Charles over his diaries was immoral because is it right that the next King of England harbors such overtly biased political views Therefore this discussion will have to consider what is moral and not moral, which is a very difficult endeavor because morality one could argue is a subjective view. This exploration will also focus on the WIPO treaty because it is the latest in the international legal framework to balance the rights of society (Utilitarian Rights) and the rights of the individual (Personality Theory Rights) in the new digital age. ... Intellectual Property, Copyright & Rights: Intellectual property rights like property rights have been protected in UK, US and Canadian law as individual and not the realm of the government to encroach into them. This is different from the approach being suggested in global copyright harmonization which considers a different approach, a utilitarian approach which weighs up the interests of society against the individual where the rights of the many outweigh the rights of the few. Copyright in Intellectual Property law usually refers to the protection of ideas in intellectual property prior to their public release; therefore in respect to copyright it can also refer to artistic designs of goods and jingles prior to completion, but the most important factor is that it portrays the traditional approach of UK law, which is similar to the US and Canada, i.e. individual property rights should not be invaded against by government, i.e. they can not be treated in a utilitarian manner, rather the personal and public concerns need to weighed and balanced. The most interesting area of intellectual property law and copyright law is personal rights v's the general welfare of society, i.e. the public nature of artistic and literary works v's protection a persons private property rights in respect to copyright items. The International Copyright Treaty is the latest in a long line of international copyright harmonization. Copyright protection is afforded to literary and artistic works that are in substantial form, i.e. sheet music, recording or written book. The work must be original and not copied.3 There also has to be labor and skill performed by the author/artist4 and
